A Message from The Staff

Published on May 16, 2013

From The Assistant to the Pastor

Dale Oden

The staff was involved in our semi-annual staff planning retreat for three days last week. It was a great time of working, eating, planning, eating, fellowship, and eating. Seriously, we did get some things accomplished regarding calendared events for the weeks and months that lie before us. I am grateful to the men and women who make up our staff. They are all dedicated and well-qualified to lead the various age groups in our church. Keep us in your prayers.

Please prayerfully consider the people you would like to nominate to serve on the Pastor Search Committee. The ballots need to be in the Church Office by 5 p.m. this Friday, May 17. The Transition Committee will tabulate the ballots and list the seven nominees who received the highest number of votes cast making up a balanced representation of church membership and who have agreed to serve on the Pastor Search Committee. This list of seven nominees will be presented to the church for approval at a Special Called Business Meeting in both morning worship services on Sunday, May 26.

This Sunday, May 19, is time for our annual Baccalaureate Service to honor our high school graduates. We will have a Combined Worship Service at 11 a.m. this Sunday in the Sanctuary. Then on Sunday afternoon, we will enjoy our annual Church-wide Picnic at Lincoln Parish Park. This event will begin at 4 p.m. We need folks to bring home-made ice cream and cookies to the picnic! Don’t forget your lawn chairs!

Senior Adults, don’t forget our monthly luncheon on Tuesday, May 21. We will meet at 11:45 a.m. in  Fellowship Hall. We will be giving a report on our recent trip to Greece. Invite someone to join us for this luncheon and fellowship.

I’m excited to begin ministry here at Temple Baptist Church, but also join my new church family in sorrow over the loss of our shepherd.  I am grateful for the conversations I was able to have with Dr. Rick and will always remember his obvious and gigantic love for this church.

I know that God has very big plans for the Youth Ministry of Temple Baptist Church, and I’m so glad that I get to be a part of it all.  I hope that you will join in on what God is doing in whatever way you can.  If you are a teenager, then dive in and get involved in every opportunity to study God’s Word, to worship, to fellowship with friends, and to follow God on this amazing adventure.  If you’re a parent of a teenager, get involved in being a part of this ministry that is going to help you be even better at leading and discipling your teenagers.  If you don’t have a teenager currently in this youth ministry, then get involved by using your wisdom in teaching, volunteering your time by  chaperoning events and trips, making yourself available as a mentor for youth or their parents, and genuinely  praying for your youth ministry.  Youth ministry is not a separate piece of Temple Baptist Church. This youth ministry is intertwined in the way that Temple Baptist Church is making disciples, doing missions locally and around the world, seeing people come to know Jesus as Savior, ministering to our community, and glorifying God! So, find a way to get involved!

Again, I am very excited to be a part of this ministry team, to serve at Temple Baptist Church, and to see God do amazing things in and through this youth ministry.  I am praying for God to do big things, and it makes me even more excited to know that I am praying to the One “who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20 ESV)

10 Non-Negotiables for Life

10 Non-Negotiables for Life

by Dr. Rick Byargeon

1. Jesus is Lord. This is where life starts and where life will end to begin again.
2. The Word of God is my authority for how to live life.
3. Love God and Love Your Neighbor.
4. Enjoy Life (Eccles. 2:24)
5. Do Life with Excellence.
6. Wisdom is Balance (those of you who were my students dig out your notes on Wisdom Literature and check my definition).
7. Be Passionate.
8. Live Deeply (because we are always on the journey toward the person God has designed us to be).
9. Humility (you’re not that good)
10. Community, not isolation (other than God, family and friends are priorities)

In lieu of flowers, the Byargeon family has requested memorials be made to the Rick Byargeon Mission Memorial in care of Temple Baptist Church.
